Becoming a Good Poker Player

There is a lot more to playing poker than just knowing the value of the cards and how to place an appropriate bet. When all is said and done poker is game that is all about people. Good poker players, the ones who always seem to be winning, are every bit as good at reading people as they are at reading the cards.

Good poker players spend just as much time working on developing their observation skills as they do learning the ins and outs of a game. The reason for this is simple. The better they are about observing people, the quicker they are going to identify their opponents tells. In poker the word tell refers of subtle indicators. Sometimes the indicators mean that the person is holding a good hand, other times it means that they are trying to bluff their way through.

Some pokerstars players seem to have a natural knack for picking up on the subtle indicators of emotion, but for most, it is something that has to be developed and honed. The best way to hone these skills is to spend lots of time watching and observing people in a variety of different situations. After a while the would-be poker player will start to notice that the average person uses certain movements when they are stressed, pleased, anxious, or excited. One the individual has identified these indicators; they can use what they have learned to help them while they are playing poker.

The first thing the poker player want to do is figure out which of their playmates has a really good hand. One of the first signs that the person is confident is that they do not seem to be paying much attention to the game. They pretend like they do not care what everyone else is doing. Looking bored is another sign that they are going to be hard to beat.

Since the person is trying to look cool even though the excitement over the hand they were dealt is making their heart pound their hands will sometimes shake a little. If the person knows this, they will try to keep their hands out of sight, at least until the next hand.

While being able to identify when a PokerStars.ru player has a great hand, it is also useful to know when they are bluffing. There are few things that will indicate a bad set of cards. The player who is trying to bluff their way will sometimes hold their breath or make a snarky comment. The more they try to intimidate their opponents, the worse their hand usually is.

Being able to identify other players tells is only half of the battle. Once the player has learned to identify what type of hand everyone else is holding, they also have to figure out how to keep their own hand from the others. The good player will be every bit as good about hiding their own physical indicators, as they are at reading others.
